Highlights include live entertainment on Friday evening at the Fairgrounds.  The festival hits its full stride June 7 with a steak and eggs breakfast, a juried arts and crafts fair at Old Fort Harrod, featuring more than 50 exhibitors, great live music, festival food, live entertainment, children’s activities, shows, craft demonstrations, a twilight tour of the fort, a 5K race, cruise-ins, and much more.  Events at the Fairgrounds that same day include a beef grilling competition, chef demonstrations, and more.  The fun wraps up June 8 with a continuation of the juried arts and crafts fair and entertainment at Old Fort Harrod State Park.

Showcased during Kentucky’s Fort Harrod Beef Festival, the new HistoryMobile exhibit features Lincoln’s life in Kentucky.  This exhibit explores Lincoln’s frontier childhood, his career from log house to the White House, and his struggles to end slavery and lead the nation through the Civil War. The exhibit contains artifacts, images, as well as audio, video and interactive elements to appeal to a variety of learners.

Vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display to the public at no charge in Kentucky’s oldest town. The event also includes DJ music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.   Vehicles dating from the 1930’s will be on display at this annual event. As many as 100 vintage car owners from across the state are expected to participate. Music and a variety of food booths will be available. Many downtown businesses will extend opening hours and door prizes will be given away throughout the evening. Rain cancels the event.

The first lady, from Lexington, Kentucky, is portrayed by Chautauqua Character Angela Bartley.   Mary was a privileged daughter of the prominent Lexington businessman and politician.  Lincoln was not the most polished of her suitors, but she astutely judged him to have the greatest political potential.  They were married in November 1842.

Keith began performing at the Freewheelin' Tavern in Lexington in 1972. Since then, he's been starved in Nashville, stirred-up in Boston, seasoned in New Orleans and smoked in the Ozarks. He has toured extensively with rockabilly pioneer Sleepy Labeef, NRBQ co-founder Steve Ferguson, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's, the Impressions. Upon returning to KY to teach literature at Morehead State, Keith frequently served as a sideman for jazz fixture Duke Madison and led the R&B quintet Annie & The Hubcats, named after his notorious funk quartet popular throughout Arkansas in the early 80's.

Students from Mercer and surrounding counties will learn about playwriting through the history of Abraham Lincoln.  The competition will include three age levels – Elementary, Middle, and High School.  Winning plays will be produced on the Ragged Edge stage as part of the 2008-2009 Children’s Theatre Season.

More than 70 gifted artisans from across Kentucky, the South and Midwest will come together in a casual and historic setting during the 13th annual Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill Craft Fair.  This juried event boasts an assortment of crafts including exceptional pottery, jewelry, glass ware, woven rugs, needle craft, basketry, leather goods, floral design and Shaker reproductions. The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill Craft Fair has been chosen in the past as one of the Top Five Festivals in Kentucky by participating artisans, and offers a truly unique setting in which to browse and purchase high quality, hand-made crafts.

The holiday season officially kicks off at the park with a gift shop open house, where you can shop for gifts, handcrafts, books, music, souvenirs and more.  Stroll through the front grounds of Old Fort Harrod State Park where over 1000 luminaries will guide your way. Step back in time and enjoy a candlelit tour of the 18th century fort replica that is complete with furnished cabins, blockhouses and a unique state park gift shop stocked with great items. Santa Claus will await all visitors, young and old, and your visit will not be complete without enjoying the sounds of holiday music, hot apple cider and homemade cookies. The Holiday Special is the perfect way to begin your holiday season and holiday shopping.

The 2nd annual living history program will give the general impression of a mid 19th century Civil War atmosphere. There will be approximately 50 living historians portraying Union Army soldiers and civilians in Harrodsburg after the Oct. 8, 1862, Battle of Perryville. This area will be interactive with the public and all participants. Historical speeches will also be given on the Battle of Perryville, Harrodsburg's conditions after the battle and the history of Harrodsburg. Join Shaker Village and the Woodford Hounds fox hunters for their annual Blessing of the Hounds. This traditional event features a blessing of the hounds, riders and the fox and is followed by the first meet of the formal season. Witness this grand event where riders dress in formal hunting attire with foxhounds alongside.  The event takes place near the West Lot equestrian facility.
